Roy Hodgson wasn’t much liked at Liverpool.

Part of that was because he wasn’t Rafael Benitez. Part was that he wasn’t Kenny Dalglish. But a big chunk was because of the style of football played under Hodgson.

Whilst the Englishman may have been moving into a position where he was never really welcome, he didn’t do much to try and win over the Anfield faithful and his short time at Liverpool was too long for many.

Now he’s been taken on by Crystal Palace, as the safe pair of hands following Frank de Boer’s attempts at ‘continental stuff’. Writing his weekly column for Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, Liverpool legend Jan Molby has said he understands the appointment, but pointed out it’s not going to push the Selhurst Park club forward.

Molby explained: “Even though 70-year-old Roy Hodgson undoubtedly is what the English call a safe pair of hands, he is not a managerial choice that will inspire quite a lot of Premier League stars. Or potential purchases.”

That’s not exactly an enthusiastic point of view from Molby, but then he was probably frustrated with Hodgson at Liverpool, and wants to keep his Danish Anfield-faithful fanbase onside.
