Turkey’s Sporx have put together what they call the ‘story’ of Vincent Janssen’s transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Fenerbahce, on loan for the rest of the season.
The slant is a very pro Fenerbahce one, and builds up the Turkish club’s joy to have secured Janssen at the end of the window. For much of the summer the Turkish media was full of rumours about Fener signing big name strikers, with some of the links unrealistic.
Even at the end of the window, Diego Costa was strongly linked with the Turkish side, but the Spanish international rejected the move. Signing Janssen on loan from Tottenham is a good move, but Sporx are trying to build up how good a move it actually is, perhaps trying to fight against previous hype about bigger names being signed.
A unnamed Fenerbahce director is quoted as saying: “We can’t believe that Janssen is with us.”
It must be said the truth is conveniently twisted, with Sporx saying Tottenham turned down big offers from Premier League clubs, with Mauricio Pochettino wanting the extra strength in his squad, rather than Janssen refusing to move on England’s deadline day.
But some exaggeration is welcomed in this case. Vincent Janssen could surely do with his ego massaging after a difficult period with Tottenham.
It’s easier said that done, but the best scenario for the Tottenham loanee is to use this goodwill whilst it’s at its height, and find the back of the net once or twice over the next few games.
