Vincent Janssen hasn’t been able to catch breath since he arrived in Istanbul.
The Tottenham player agreed to join Fenerbahce, on loan for the rest of the season, right at the end of the transfer window, and the beginning of his Turkish experience has left Janssen in no doubt as to how big football is in the country.
As Janssen got on the plane to leave his Tottenham woes behind him, the Turkish press had already been informed what time that plane would arrive in Istanbul.
Met at the airport by fans and media, Janssen was whisked off straightaway for a medical, there’s no wonder the Tottenham owned player looked bewildered by the situation.
Since then there’s been a series of media opportunities, and one of those has been speaking to Turkey’s beIN.
Asked about his move from Tottenham, Janssen explained: “The transfer happened on the last day, there’s been a lot of rumours before already and in the end I was happy that I could make this transfer. There were a lot of opportunities before but I’m happily here now.”
Janssen was then asked if he’d spoken to Fener’s Robin van Persie, and the Netherlands current manager, and who was previously at Fenerbahce: “I speak with Dick Advocaat, of course, and he told me a lot of good stories about the club. It’s a big club and a nice city, so he told me to go there.”
On his aims for the season, Janssen said: “Of course, last year was not what I wanted, but that was last year. I have to look at the future and I have to continue. I want to play, I want to improve myself, and I want to be important for the team.”
Tottenham will be wishing him all the best.
