Aside from an injury to Angel Di Maria and the worry of how to get all the other big names in and leave upset to the minimum, PSG’s big dilemma ahead of Celtic is which goalkeeper to start.
Kevin Trapp and Alphonse Areola seem to be in a permanent battle over who can be PSG’s most dissapointing goalkeeper, and L’Equipe believe Trapp may get the nod to start against Celtic.
Areola started PSG’s last game against Metz on Friday and although that ended up in a 5-1 victory, the story of the match was different. A mistake from Areola should have seen Metz go 2-1 up at a time the home side were very much in the game.
A red card and several goals later and it’s largely irrelevant, but not forgotten when thinking about Celtic. L’Equipe believe Trapp could be set to line up against Brendan Rodgers’ men in the Champions League, because he trained on the pitch after the Metz game.
There’s even a suggestion Trapp could be PSG’s Champions League goalkeeper over the season, and Areola get the nod in Ligue 1.
Whichever man is chosen, Rodgers will surely plan to get his Celtic side to test them early and roughly.
Craig Gordon is predicted to be the busier man, but has the confidence of knowing his place is his, and Brendan Rodgers trusts him, pretty much whatever happens against PSG. If either Trapp or Areola have a nightmare against Celtic, they may not be meaningfully seen for the rest of the season.
