Coming off the back of a 26 goal season in the Championship for Bristol City on loan from Chelsea, Tammy Abraham moved up a notch, moving on a temporary deal to Swansea City under Paul Clement.
There until the end of the season, the 19-year-old is also one of the stars of the England U21 squad, scoring in their recent 3-0 over Latvia U21.
With a lot of hype around him, and the performances to go with it, Abraham looks to have a bright future ahead of him, but he might not be playing for England much longer.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick, process is already underway to try and convince the Swansea forward to choose them over Gareth Southgate’s side.
He said: “You take a first look at the team and you see players like William Ekong, Wilfred Ndidi, Leon Balogun, Alex Iwobi, Chidozie Awaziem, Tyronne Ebuehi, Kelechi Iheanacho and now we have Ola Aina as well.
We are working on getting Tammy Abraham. There are others like Henry Onyekuru and Olanrewaju Kayode. I believe we are so blessed and that this team will cause a big stir in Russia, and if not in Russia, in Qatar in five years time”.
This isn’t the first time Pinnick has expressed his desire to get Abraham to become a Super Eagle, revealing back in 2016 the young Chelsea loanee was ‘like a son’ to him, convinced he would get his way.
We’ll have to wait and see whether or not he achieves his goal, but with the likes of Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford already ahead of him in the pecking order for England, Abraham’s best shot at regular international football could very well be with Nigeria.
