Leeds United still have the opportunity to sign summer target Reto Ziegler. The 31 year old is currently a free agent, and consequently can sign for a club outside the window.
Despite interest from Leeds United, FC Sion, Real Betis and Celtic this summer Ziegler is still without a club. The Swiss international was released by Sion at the end of last season, and despite rumours he could return to the club, nothing materialised.
Ziegler’s situation could now give clubs like Leeds United a chance to do some transfer business, even though the window closed last week.
Last month we covered reports from Switzerland that Leeds United were interested in signing the Swiss international, after he was released in the summer.
With Thomas Christiansen’s late interest in Montpellier defender William Remy it seems the Leeds United boss was looking to strengthen his defensive options before last week’s deadline, and Ziegler could be an option now the window has shut.
Ziegler’s versatility would be an asset for Leeds United, and he could be an ideal squad player for the Championship side.
