Pierre-Michel Lasogga was finally announced as Leeds United player on Thursday.
It had been clear the Yorkshire club wanted to announce both Lasogga and Paweł Cibicki as deadline day signings, and they did… even if everyone knew the deals were done beforehand.
Lasogga arrives on loan from Hamburg, with the Bundesliga club not seeing a place for him in their squad. The player’s high wages were proving a drain, and a loan seemed the best solution for all involved.
But Leeds United matching Lasogga’s wages would have smashed the club’s salary scale, and it was always unlikely they’d agree to cover the lot. Even in Germany it was never really expected that Leeds United would cover Lasogga’s transfer, the player was always going to still cost HSV.
Hamburger Abendblatt report Hamburg will continue to pay half of Lasogga’s €3.4m wage whilst he’s at Leeds United. There’s also no mention, and no suggestion, of any loan fee.
