Steven Defour is now staying at Burnley, unless there’s a dramatic turnaround this week.
The midfielder had been looking for a way out of the club, frustrated with his lack of prominence under Sean Dyche, but a lack of offers and a brighter Burnley outlook have seen things change.
Peace has broken out at Turf Moor and the Belgian is happy to remain.
Back in the Belgium squad again, Defour has been quizzed on his Burnley situation and why he’s still at the club, and, for example, not in Greece with Olympiacos.
Accepting that he considered leaving Burnley during the current transfer window, Defour added: “The club wasn’t really willing to sell me. Olympiacos was very interested, but Burnley asked the price paid to Anderlecht (€8m), and Olympiacos didn’t want to pay a lot of money.”
The World Cup appearing on the horizon has helped to focus Defour’s mind and he’s now committed to shining for Burnley and getting a place in Belgium’s squad for Russia. That will also involve staying fit, and Defour is hoping all the luck falls his way this season.
