After reports on Monday morning that Nice had contacted Nampalys Mendy about a loan from Leicester City, news has now emerged the player has rejected the opportunity to join another Ligue 1 club.
Already seeing moves to Bordeaux and Atalanta fall through, the defensive midfielder isn’t interested in playing for just any club, as shown by L’Equipe’s report revealing the player has turned down Rennes.
The Leicester City man’s agent told the French newspaper that Petr Cech’s former side had already attempted to sign him a few weeks ago, when the answer was already ‘no’, and tried again recently.
Considering L’Equipe state Rennes were in ‘advanced negotiations’ with the Foxes about a loan, it seems their ‘permanent transfer or no deal’ stance regarding the former Monaco starlet has softened.
Furthermore, the player’s representative confirmed talks with both Nice and Saint-Etienne were still ongoing, so it seems we might get some more updates on this deal in the coming days.
Despite arriving with a lot of promise just last summer, the 25-year-old’s time at King Power Stadium appears to be well and truly over.
