After some recurring links sending the injured Erik Sviatchenko away from Celtic Park back to his homeland in Denmark with FC Copenhagen, it seems the centre-back won’t be returning home after all.
At the peak of the stories, the 25-year-old was even spotted at Copenhagen airport, hinting something could still get done before the end of the transfer window, but that won’t be the case, as confirmed by the Danish side’s manager, Ståle Solbakken.
Speaking to Bold, he explained that while he did ‘talk to Celtic once’, the two clubs were ‘far, far away’ from an agreement due to them being unable to pay both the fee set by the Scottish Premiership champions and the player’s wages.
While signing the Denmark international would have been a coup for the club, and Sviatchenko himself was open to it, the financial aspect of things just wasn’t feasible.
Furthermore, the player’s injury was a worry, as Solbakken pointed out that, worst case scenario, the centre-back won’t be fit before November 15th.
So. no sale and bad injury news all in one go.
