Reading will face tough competition if they still want to sign Ola John from Benfica this summer.
The Royals were said to be interested in bringing the winger back to the club after the loan spell after he had there in the 2015/16 season.
But as reported by Tutto Mercato Web today, it’s the Italian side Genoa who seem closer to landing the 25-year-old this summer. Genoa are said to be in front of league rivals Udinese in the race, and Reading don’t even get a mention.
Genoa and Udinese were also mentioned by the Dutch press this weekend, and this was covered by Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today.
O Jogo point out the situation must be resolved until the end of the month, with it seeming clear Benfica want him out.
As Ola John’s contract only expires in 2019 and no one seems to be keen to pay a big fee for him, it’s likely that he will leave on another loan deal.
Linked with a string of clubs once again this summer, it would be no surprise if Ole John starts deadline at Benfica, and, if so, it’s worth Reading thinking about a last minute swoop.
