Earning himself a move to Middlesbrough after an impressive trial, Enes Mahmutovic slotted straight into their U23s squad in their 2-1 win over Derby’s reserves last Friday before coming off in the 68th minute.
Clearly impressing enough in training, the club have received unfortunate news the centre-back will be missing the next five to six weeks after picking up a bad hamstring tear.
The injury news was revealed by Le Quotidien in Mahmutovic’s native Luxembourg, and will see him miss the next international break as the small nation prepare to face France and Belarus in their World Cup qualifier.
Mahmutovic arrived at Riverside from CS Fola Esch back in May, and told Sport Witness he was delighted to have ended up in a club of ‘great tradition’.
Promising to ‘work very hard’ and ‘do his best’ to help Middlesbrough achieve new successes, the 20-year-old was seemingly doing just that before his injury.
Hopefully it won’t hinder his progress too much.
