After being told last Friday was the deadline for Roma to sign Riyad Mahrez, we’ve been given a new one by Il Tempo on Monday.
According to the Italian newspaper, we have now entered the ‘last 48 hours’ of the saga, as we get closer to a decision from Leicester that could see them either sell the Algeria international or keep him for another season.
Il Tempo reiterate what has already been said many times, which is that Roma’s offer of €35m is the maximum they will go to to sign Mahrez, and the club believe they have done enough to get their man.
Of course, the decision now solely rests on Leicester.
If Monchi hasn’t received a response from the Foxes regarding his offer, the Spanish director of football will forget all about Mahrez and move onto other targets that he’s already enquired about.
Frankly, this is all getting a bit repetitive, and considering we’ve already had one deadline come and go, this could easily go all the way to transfer deadline day, especially if no ‘big’ Premier League clubs turn up with a bid of their own.
As for Monchi’s ‘alternatives’, Juan Cuadrado and Patrick Schick aren’t exactly close to signing.
And just in case you thought this was just Il Tempo’s side of things, Il Messaggero corroborate their local counterpart’s claims with a similar story.
