Estudiantes have perhaps been slightly naive in their dealings with Tottenham Hotspur. With the Argentine club wanting to sell Juan Foyth, and Mauricio Pochettino being interested in the defender, a deal certainly looked possible.

Tottenham gave an indication they’d meet Estudinates’ asking price, which was around €10m or $10m depending which report one chooses to believe, but the Argentines were in for a shock.

Yes, Spurs would go to the full figure, but only after paying a much smaller fee upfront and seeing the rest being made up of bonuses. Disappointed with Tottenham’s first offer, Estudiantes have been expecting a new approach from the English club.

PSG are strongly in the situation too, but Foyth seems to have been pushed aside as the club concentrates on trying to pull off a dream signing this summer.

El Dia, who have been reporting the chase since the beginning, say Tottenham have now contacted Estudiantes and told them the potential transfer is off, the interest in Foyth is dropped.

There could be a hope at Spurs that PSG edge away, and Estudiantes are then minded to contact Tottenham and try to do the deal at the original, lower, offer.
