Player has ‘one foot’ at Tottenham, and his transfer to Spurs could be agreed today

Increasingly it seems that Estudiantes are working to sell Juan Foyth to Tottenham Hotspur, that’s rather than Spurs identifying the player and then chasing a potential transfer.

It’s the Argentine club doing all the running on this one, and that’s because they have a debt to pay to the AFA, and it needs paying quickly if they’re to avoid sanctions. Those sanctions involve losing a large chunk of TV rights, so it’s not a slap on the wrist.

A Wednesday report from El Dia went into things in detail, explaining Estudiantes president Juan Sebastian Veron travelled to London this week for talks, flying KLM via Frankfurt. It’s pretty clear where the leaks seem to be coming from, and it’s not Tottenham.

Estudiantes play Nacional Potosi in the Copa Sudamericana on Thursday evening, and El Dia report Foyth is in the squad despite having ‘one foot’ at Tottenham. Such is the possibility that Foyth could be a Tottenham player soon, Estudiantes have taken extra players in case Veron telephones and says the deal is done, and the defender can’t play.

That would mean things being agreed today, as Estudiantes’ match is at 11.15pm London time.

A deal being agreed so quickly is perhaps optimistic on behalf of the Argentine club. With it being them with a need to sell, Veron can only expect so much goodwill from his old teammate Mauricio Pochettino before Daniel Levy jumps in and sees Estudiantes as prey.
