Very keen on signing Nicolas Pépé during the January transfer window, Newcastle have since seen the Ivory Coast international move to Lille, meaning a new right-winger needs to be looked at.

Well, if TF1 in France are to be believed, they didn’t have to look very far, as Saint-Etienne’s Jonathan Bamba is one of the alternatives.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Angers, Pépé’s former club, and impressed during his brief time there, scoring three goals and picking up two assists in just nine starts and 16 appearances overall.

Now back at his club, a decision will need to be made by both club and player regarding his future.

TF1 explain that no talks have taken place as of yet, meaning the next few weeks should shed some more light on his situation, but Newcastle aren’t the only ones interested.

The French media outlet report Bordeaux, Werder Bremen and Atalanta are all also keeping an eye on him.

Speaking to Téléfoot at the weekend, the player said he was ‘very happy’ to return to Saint-Etienne and that he was ‘hoping’ to get some game time, especially with a new manager to impress.

However, if that isn’t the case, or someone comes knocking with an interesting offer, things could change very quickly.
