A couple of days ago we covered a Marca article which suggested Real Madrid are watching the Euro U21 tournament closely and have been impressed with Sandro.

Yes, that’s the same Sandro who is supposed to be signing for Everton from Malaga. At the time we made it clear that Marca were probably winding up their Catalan cousins, given there’s already a great deal of upset in the Barcelona press at how Sandro was allowed to leave for free.

Sandro hasn’t been one of Spain’s most impressive players during the tournament, maybe distracted by Everton, and over the past week there’s been an effort in Madrid to highlight the progress of Borja Mayoral, Real Madrid own youth striker.

It’s no surprise that Spanish radio then took the story and ran with it, that’s what Spanish radio do. Claims on Tuesday that Sandro had agreed to join Real Madrid were made by the same person who claimed Theo Hernandez had an agreement with Barcelona, before he then deleted his tweets on that.

Making a mistake is one thing, trying to delete the evidence is another and wouldn’t exactly fill one with confidence over reliability.

Speaking to another Spanish radio show, and covered by Marca, Florentino Perez was last night asked about the claims, and said: “First news I’ve heard of it.”

That sounds good for Everton. Of course, it can’t be ruled out that Perez would swoop just to wind up Barcelona, but then that could be self defeating at Real Madrid.
