After months of will he, won’t he articles, everything surrounding Jordan Veretout’s future went very quiet, only to come back on Friday morning in France.
The Aston Villa midfielder spent last season on loan at Saint-Etienne, where he was one of the better performers in a rather average season for the club, and is technically set to return to Villa Park at the end of the month.
Among the destinations available to him, one stands out, and that’s a return to his former club Nantes.
Even before the appointment of Claudio Ranieri as their new manager, there were whispers the Ligue 1 side were interested in bringing their former star back, and the Italian’s appointment has done nothing but increase the speculation.
After all, it’s worth pointing out that before signing for Aston Villa, Veretout was rather close to signing for Leicester City, when ‘The Tinkerer’ was in charge, in the summer prior to their title winning season.
According to Press Océan in France, a local newspaper close to Nantes, Ranieri is said to appreciate the 24-year-old a lot, and would be interested in bringing him to Stade de la Beaujoire.
However, the French outlet explain that while Aston Villa would be open to the idea of selling him for around €8m, the Ligue 1 side are currently only looking for a loan.
Certainly one we expect to evolve in the coming weeks.
