Newcastle United star Alexander Isak is ‘excited’ that Barcelona are interested in him, but will have Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United to choose from too.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who cover the ‘fight’ for the Newcastle striker that is going to take place this summer.
They say that Isak is on Barcelona’s agenda as they look for another striker to support Robert Lewandowski, who turns 37 in August.
The Catalan giants have expressed their interest and been told that Isak is ‘excited about being on their agenda’ but a deal will not be easy to get done. That’s largely because of the competition for him.
Arsenal, Liverpool and ‘the desperate’ Manchester United are all keen as well but for various reasons. Arsenal want to replace Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, Manchester United want to start a new project and Liverpool simply don’t have a striker in their squad that Arne Slot likes.
Evern outside of England the likes of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have ‘thought of’ the Newcastle star ahead of the summer.
The Magpies will almost be forced to sell if they don’t make it into the Champions League but would want at least €100m to ensure they make a profit. They’ve already paid around €90m in a fixed fee and variables. Isak also earns around €18m in wages.
Both of those would be hard for Barcelona to match as they’d need to sell big to balance the books first and comply with La Liga’s 1-1 rule imposed on the club.
They’re firmly interested nonetheless and Isak is excited about that interest, even though he’ll have plenty of offers on the table.
