Used primarily as a left-back by Lille last season, Djibril Sidibé is attracting a lot of attention in the Premier League, especially since he was called up by Didier Deschamps as one of his reserves for the Euros France squad.
Sent home after not making the final 23, the French right-back spoke to L’Equipe on Friday ahead of the tournament to speak of his experience, and what he’s been doing since.
Describing the experience of being with the national team as ‘huge’, the player has no regrets regarding being sent home, admitting he only went to ‘learn, listen and analyse’ for potential future call-ups.
Amid all of this, the player also discussed what could happen in the future and it seems an exit from the Ligue 1 club is to be expected from him this summer.
He said: “I’m open to anything, but we will need to think about the Champions League, my game time, balance with family and the financial aspect.”
Expecting progress in the next couple of weeks, Sidibé is adamant he wants to be a right-back instead of playing down the left like he has been doing at his current club.
It’s a good thing the club he’s been linked with the most (West Ham) are in need of a right-back, as Michail Antonio, as well as he has performed there as a stop gap, isn’t a defender by trade.
