There are reports in the Swedish media that IFK Värnamo defender Michael Steinwender is on the verge of signing for Hearts.

The Austrian has been linked with the Scottish Premiership side during this transfer window as they look to add to their squad this month.

Expressen today report on the latest developments regarding Hearts’ pursuit of Steinwender and they say the 24-year-old will fly in this weekend ahead of a medical with the club.

It’s claimed an agreement is in place pending his medical, and all going well he will officially be announced as a Hearts player in the coming days.

Hearts have also been linked with Steinwender’s teammate Johnbosco Kalu after reports the Edinburgh club are considering signing the £400k-rated centre forward.

The Jambos should expect to face competition from Beitar Jerusalem, with claims the Israeli club have already made an offer for the 27-year-old.

Steinwender made sixteen starts in the recently concluded Allsvenskan season and is contracted to IFK Värnamo until December 2026.
