Fenerbahce vice-president Acun Ilıcalı has told the Turkish media that they are interested in signing Newcastle United defender Lloyd Kelly during this transfer window.

Today there were reports the Super Lig giants want to sign Kelly as Jose Mourinho looks to bring in a left sided defender.

Ilıcalı has released a statement as covered by Futbolarena and the Turkish businessman has confirmed they are in transfer talks to sign the Newcastle United player.

He went on to say they are trying to reach an agreement to sign the central defender and the club hope a transfer will happen.

“We are in talks for a Lloyd Kelly transfer. He’s a player we’re interested in. If we can reach an agreement, we will transfer this player,” said the Fener official.

It’s been well documented in the Turkish press that Mourinho wants to bring in a left-sided defender in this window following their struggles in this position. With Kelly also being able to play at left back he’s seen as an ideal candidate for the Yellow Canaries.

The Istanbul side sold Ferdi Kadıoğlu to Brighton & Hove Albion during the summer and with a long-term injury to Jayden Oosterwolde , the Portuguese coach needs to address this position.

Kelly has made 13 appearances for Newcastle United this season and is contracted to the Magpies until June 2029.
