According to a claim in the Turkish media, Fenerbahce are showing interest in Newcastle United defender Lloyd Kelly.

Recently it’s been well documented in the Turkish press that Fener manager Jose Mourinho wants to bring a left-sided defender in this transfer window.

Sercan Hamzaoglu today reports on the latest developments regarding Fenerbahce’s pursuit for a left-sided defender and they say the Istanbul club have entered transfer talks to sign the 26-year-old Newcastle United player.

The Turkish journalist claims an official offer has been tabled for Kelly and that the player’s profile is what the Super Lig giants are looking for in this window.

Although his preferred position is in central defence, it seems Kelly being able to play at left back has brought him to the attention of Fenerbahce. The Istanbul side sold Ferdi Kadıoğlu to Brighton & Hove Albion during the summer and with a long-term injury to Jayden Oosterwolde, the Portuguese coach needs to address this position.

Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko has also been linked with the Yellow Canaries in recent days, but given Inter Milan’s interest in the Ukrainian a move to Istanbul looks unlikely.

Kelly has made 13 appearances for Newcastle United this season and is contracted to the Magpies until June 2029.
