Brentford have ‘entered the race’ for Benfica’s Jan-Niklas Beste and could rival Crystal Palace for the winger.

That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who reports that Brentford are the latest to show an interest in the 26-year-old.

He states that Brentford have joined the list of suitors for Beste, with Borussia Monchengladbach also very interested in him. They, though, would find a deal complicated to get done.

Two other unnamed Bundesliga side are also ‘seriously in contention’ according to the journalist.

Benfica are open to selling Beste this month for €12m. this can be achieved through a sale or a loan deal. The latter would presumably include an option to buy or an obligation.

It seems that has piqued Brentford’s interest as they look to strengthen their squad this month. They could face competition from Crystal Palace, though.

They’ve been continually linked with Beste since last month. A report four days ago stated that they had made contact for the player. However, it was also claimed they’d need to make a ‘truly irresistible’ offer for a transfer to happen.

That tallied with earlier reports stating that Crystal Palace had seen the door slammed in their face by Benfica when they’d asked about Beste.

Now the situation appears to have changed. €12m is not a big price for either Crystal Palace or Brentford to pay and with Plettenberg also stating a loan is possible, expect Beste’s name to feature heavily this month.
