Amad Diallo has had an impressive season for Manchester United, scoring six times and picking up seven assists accross all competitions.

The Ivorian has been rewarded with a new deal already and there is quite a lot of excitement around the 22-year-old and his future at Old Trafford.

Gianluca di Marzio has now spoken to Giorgio Brogni, who shared the dressing room with Amad during their time together with the Atalanta U19s side and the 23-year-old spoke about the Manchester United man’s rise in some detail.

He said: “You could see that in one-on-one situations and in touching the ball he had something unique. He was a bit lacking physically, but he made up for it with speed and strength in his legs.

“A flaw in the early days was perhaps the defensive phase , but thanks to work in the youth sector he was already improving. Then it is normal that a player like that needs to be fresh going forward to perform.”

Brogni also explained the likes of Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski and Leicester City’s Caleb Okoli shared the dressing room with Amad and they had an excellent relationship.

Off the pitch we all knew each other, we had a fantastic relationship. In addition to Amad, I played with Kulusevski, Okoli, Carnesecchi, Del Prato and many others. We were very strong but we didn’t talk about the future or abroad.”

The defender revealed that from a young age, the Ivorian always liked having fun on the pitch.

“However, I remember well that Diallo was always laughing. He left everything out and transformed himself on the pitch – it was as if he was just taking to the pitch to have fun.”

Brogni narrated an incident from when Amad dominated against Manchester City’s youth side in the UEFA Youth League.

In our first European year, we beat City, featuring Eric Garcia, Dele-Bashiru, Bernabè and Cole Palmer, 1-3 . Amad won the MVP award, scoring one goal and setting up the other two. Their full-back, Ogbeta, had a headache for the entire match.”

It is clear that many at Atalanta and in Italy still admire Amad’s talent and have watched his journey to being a star at Old Trafford.

This is likely to be his biggest season at Manchester United, considering how he was used regularly only towards the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

At 22, the winger has a long way to go in his career and his new contract at the club shows that everyone at the Theatre of Dreams has a lot of belief in his potential.
