Lyon winger Ernest Nuamah is ‘one step away’ from joining Everton, with an agreement ‘almost reached’ between the various parties.

That’s according to journalist Santi Aouna, who reports Everton are on the verge of sealing their first signing of the January transfer window.

A report yesterday stated Everton were back in the picture for Nuamah, who had been a target in the summer transfer window as well.

Lyon need to sell players this month to help ease their financial struggles, having been ordered by French football’s financial watchdog to bring down their debts this month or face relegation from Ligue 1 at the end of the season.

That means the whole squad is essentially on the transfer list and the French club are working on numerous exits at this moment in time.

Nuamah appears to be one of them and Aouna reports he is now ‘one step away’ from joining Everton. An agreement has almost been finalised between the various parties.

Aouna makes no mention of the nature of the deal, but given Everton have all of their loan spots filled at this moment in time, that would suggest the deal for Nuamah is a permanent one.

Those details are sure to follow soon but for now, it appears Nuamah is on his way to Goodison Park as David Moyes’ first signing of his second era.
