Tottenham Hotspur’s Alejo Véliz had a disastrous spell while on loan at Sevilla during the second half of last season.

Ange Postecoglou left the striker out of his plans this season and Spurs sent him out on loan to Espanyol in the summer window.

The Tottenham owned player scored his first goal for the La Liga side in August and even scored a hat-trick in the Copa del Rey in October.

Since then, his situation has become worse and the Spanish club could cut short his loan stay in January, according to La Grada Ràdio.

To put it in context, the 21-year-old has made three appearances since the start of last month and one was in the Copa de Rey defeat to lower division side UD Barbastro.

Due to Véliz’s complicated situation, the report claims he’s ‘willing to accept an early exit’ in the winter market.

Espanyol want to improve their squad next month, but their economic conditions make it challenging. The report states they would be ‘forced to negotiate’ departures for the likes of Véliz to lower their wage bill and make room in the squad.

La Grada say Véliz’s situation ‘reflects the mess’ that’s currently at Espanyol. If he were to return to north London, Tottenham would then have to make a decision on the Argentine’s next step.
