Manchester City have made an approach for Argentina international Thiago Almada in the past.

That’s according to the attacking midfielder himself, and he revealed this during a chat with ESPN F90, relayed by Olé.

The 23-year-old received an offer from Manchester City when he was at CA Vélez Sarsfield.

He came up through the ranks of the Argentine club’s youth system and get into their first team in 2018. Almada mainly operated as attacking midfielder at Vélez, managing 24 goals and 10 assists from 100 games in all competitions.

The World Cup winner left Vélez for Atalanta United in January 2022 and then left the MLS side for Botafogo in the summer window. Prior to his move to America, Manchester City had tabled a bid for the player and their plan was to initially send him on loan to Sporting.

Pep Guardiola’s side weren’t successful as Almada’s former club refused to accept their proposal.

“I had an offer at City. Vélez wanted me to renew because I had six months left on my contract. They sent the offer, and I was going to go to Sporting for six months on loan,” he said.

“But Vélez didn’t want to sell me for that money, and I renewed. I didn’t want to go free either. I stayed at Vélez. I wanted to do well.”

The report and the South American hasn’t specified when the Premier League winners made an offer. It’s likely to be in the summer of 2023 as claims from Argentina had talked about Manchester City’s approach for Almada.
