On November 29th, we covered claims from Colombia which stated Liverpool haven’t yet made progress renewing Luis Díaz’s contract.

It was also suggested Liverpool could sell him next summer if there’s no renewal and Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain were named as potential contenders.

Journalist Xavier Bosch, writing in his column for Mundo Deportivo, talks about the La Liga side’s interest in the Liverpool star.

The Colombia international was the ‘favourite’ target for Barca sporting director Deco in the summer window, but didn’t make a concrete approach.

Díaz’s contract lasts until 2027 and he hasn’t got closer to signing an extension. Taking his ‘contractual mess’ at Anfield into account, Barca think they can meet the conditions needed to sign him next summer.

Bosch has warned Hansi Flick’s side ‘not to get their hopes up’. That’s because the player and the Reds are ‘playing their cards’ in the renewal negotiation that ‘should have a happy ending’. In other words, Díaz is expected to renew his contract at Liverpool.

Therefore, the journalist states it’s easier for Barcelona to sign Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies than the South American.

Díaz has managed nine goals and three assists from 22 games for Arne Slot’s side this season.
