Celtic will take on Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League today after Brendan Rodgers’ side settled for a 1-1 draw against Club Brugge in their last European tie.
Cameron Carter-Vickers scored an own goal, and Daizen Maeda netted the equaliser in at Celtic Park against Club Brugge.
Club Brugge’s Ardon Jashari had stated his side were superior against Celtic and deserved to pick up three points from their trip to Celtic Park.
Last week, Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell attended the European Club Association’s [ECA] last board meeting of the year in Budapest. That’s reported by Het Laatste Nieuws, who say the Scottish champions’ chief met Club Brugge chairman Bart Verhaeghe in Hungary.
The report mainly focuses on the improvements and progress made by the Jupiler Pro League side under Verhaeghe over recent years, and also shares what was discussed between Verhaeghe and the Celtic chairman.
It’s claimed that during the chat, Lawwell let the Belgian club’s chairman know Celtic were ‘very happy’ to have picked up a point, having been impressed by Club Brugge.
Lawwell also reportedly informed Verhaeghe that not many opposition teams manage to keep the home fans at Celtic Park ‘so silent’.
Of course, the Celtic official was likely just being polite, but Club Brugge and the Belgian media are grasping it as a badge of honour.
