Destiny Udogie joined Tottenham Hotspur from Udinese in January 2023 and has been a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s side this season.

He’s now played 49 times for Tottenham and has made 19 appearances in all competitions this campaign, becoming the club’s first-choice at left-back.

Udogie’s agent Stefano Antonelli has now provided some background about his move to the London club. He revealed that AC Milan were interested before Spurs sealed their move and will now see him as one who got away.

He told PianetaMilan: “There was only interest and nothing more. Probably if we speak to the Milan executives today they will beat their chest three times, but at the time as an alternative to Theo [Hernandez] they rightly believed that it was too important an investment.”

Antonelli also explained that Tottenham’s financial capacity was a key reason for the move.

“Also because Tottenham paid 20m euros for him plus 6m in bonuses, it would have been a particularly important investment. These are the moments in the market that can happen.”

Spurs’ decision to pay the money for Udogie is paying off, especially considering how the Italy international has turned into a full-back who inverts efficiently in midfield and also acts as a creator on the left side of the pitch.

For €25m, and with the player still having plenty of time to grow, it looks like one of the better Tottenhams deals of recent years.
