Manchester City completed the signing of Claudio Echeverri and sent him back on loan to River Plate in the winter 2024 market.

The 18-year-old’s loan deal expires in December and he’s contracted to return to the Etihad next month.

On Sunday, the Manchester City man made an assist in River Plate’s 4-0 win over Rosario Central and it was their last home game of this season.

TyC Sports explain the fixture saw the attacking midfielder return from an injury and that gave him the opportunity to say goodbye to River Plate fans before leaving for Manchester City.

River Plate will play their last game of this season against Racing Club this weekend, after which the Argentina U23 international will leave for England.

He’s managed four goals and six assists from 50 matches in all competitions this year. TyC Sports say the Manchester City owned player wasn’t successful in showcasing his best qualities this year.

The South American club have been trying to retain Echeverri beyond this year, but they haven’t been successful because Manchester City intend to include him in Pep Guardiola’s squad in January.

Despite the Citizens’ firm stance, the report says some River Plate officials ‘still have small hope’ of extending Echeverri’s loan stay. This will only be possible if Guardiola’s side were to sanction a new temporary deal.
