Liverpool have become the latest club to be credited with an interest in River Plate young star Franco Mastantuono.
That’s at least what River Noticias are reporting, and they state the Reds have joined the chase for the 17-year-old.
Their title says River Plate are ‘on alert’ as Liverpool are keen on their ‘gem’.
The attacking midfielder climbed through the ranks of the Argentine club’s youth system and was promoted to their first team earlier this year. He’s clocked in 1,441 minutes from 40 matches in all competitions so far.
Mastantuono has been linked with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City and Manchester United in recent months and Arne Slot’s side are now added to this list.
Rive Plate have to be wary to the possibility of the Reds and others making approaches for the player.
The Argentina U20 international’s contract lasts until December 2026, and it includes a release clause of €45m. The report states the figure will rise to €50m in the last week of the winter market.
Rive Plate have no plans to sell him and it’s claimed interested clubs have to activate his clause for the transfer.
Liverpool haven’t yet made contact, but it’s not ruled out for them to make an approach in the coming weeks.
If the Merseyside club were to agree a deal with River Plate, Mastantuono won’t be able to arrive in the UK until he turns 18 years of age in August 2025.
