Feyenoord defender David Hancko has admitted he spoke to Arne Slot about joining Liverpool, but the Reds transfer philosophy stopped that happening.
Voetbal Nieuws cover comments from the 26-year-old today, made to the Slovakian FA’s SFZ podcast, about interest from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
Hancko was one of the names at Feyenoord that was continually linked with a move to Liverpool over the summer after Arne Slot was named as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.
Most had assumed that Slot would raid his former club for signings but that did not prove to be the case as Federico Chiesa was the only arrival at Anfield.
Hancko ended up staying at Feyenoord as moves elsewhere didn’t happen, continuing to impress for the Dutch side as they’ve competed in the Eredivisie and the Champions League.
The defender has spoken about the interest from Liverpool in the months since the summer, raving about Slot and admitting that talks did take place between him and his former manager.
That’s a point he’s made once again, revealing that it was Liverpool’s transfer philosophies that stopped a transfer from taking place.
“I was in contact with the coach, but he immediately told me that it was not possible,” he said.
“Liverpool have a certain transfer philosophy. Age was one issue, the other was price. Both factors were negative for me.”
