Manchester City’s Rodri suffered a serious knee injury against Arsenal in September and is set to spend most of this season, at least, on the sidelines.

The Spain international won the Ballon d’Or in October and returned to his country to collect another individual award from Spanish newspaper AS.

As well as the Manchester City star, Atheltic’s Nico Williams received an individual award for his role in helping La Roja win the Euro 2024 in the summer.

The 28-year-old midfielder attended the ceremony but Williams wasn’t present because he was preparing for the Basque club’s clash against Real Madrid on Wednesday.

According to AS, the Athletic winger connected with the Manchester City player and Spain manager Luis de la Fuente when collecting his award.

The trio spoke to each other and Williams told his compatriots that he’s preparing for the “difficult” game against Real Madrid. Rodri then joked with the 22-year-old that he would like to take him to Pep Guardiola’s side.

“Right now, I would take him to [Manchester] City, without a doubt, so that he feels the cold of Manchester, well it’s similar to Bilbao,” he said.

Williams managed eight goals and 19 assists from 37 matches last season and has two goals and five assists from 18 games this season. His deal at the La Liga side lasts until 2027.
