Maximilian Wöber arrived at Leeds United from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2023 to help the Whites in their battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Leeds dropped to the second division and the Austria international end up going out on loan to Borussia Mönchengladbach last season.
The Bundesliga side tried to sign him again in the summer window but weren’t successful. They weren’t the only club to fail as Red Bull Salzburg were also in the picture.
That’s according to Tuesday’s edition of Austrian newspaper Kurier, who say the centre-back wanted to return to his former club in the last window. They don’t mention why the deal didn’t take shape, but the 26-year-old is still on their radar for January.
Red Bull Salzburg are looking to strengthen the centre-back position in the next window and the Leeds player is on their agenda.
Wöber has clocked in 100 minutes from three games for Daniel Farke’s side this season and could leave Leeds for Red Bull Salzburg in search of regular game time. As well as the Whites defender, Feyenoord’s Gernot Trauner is also considered by the Austrian club.
Their new director, Rouven Schröder, has addressed the possibility of signing the duo in the winter market.
“They are two very good players. We have a young team, so experienced players are of course exciting. But a lot of points have to be right, and we’ll examine transfers carefully,” he said, relayed by Kurier.
