At the weekend, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez picked up an injury in his side’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The incident took place in the 29th minute when the Argentine international misplaced a pass to Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson inside Aston Villa’s box. The 32-year-old was quick to react to stop the striker from capitalising on his error but hurt his hand in the process.
Robin Olsen replaced Martínez in the second half and multiple sources from Argentina provide the latest on his setback.
D Sports took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state the Aston Villa star has fractured a ‘little finger of his left hand’.
It’s not clear when the World Cup winner will return to action, and Aston Villa ‘won’t rush him and wait for his full recovery’.
TyC Sports also report the goalkeeper fractured a little finger of his left hand when Jackson stepped on his hand. They state this information was provided by the Villans’ medical team.
Apart from this injury, it’s claimed Martínez was also struggling with a back problem. With regards to the fracture, TyC Sports say the ‘recovery would be rapid’ and he shouldn’t be away from the pitch for long.
The Aston Villa medical staff want the South American to make a full recovery before being available for selection.
