Rangers have climbed to the eighth position of the Europa League table after Philippe Clement’s side sealed a 4-1 win over OGC Nice on Thursday.
Hamza Igamane assisted Vaclav Cerny’s opener in the 35th minute and three minutes later, Mohamed Diomandé doubled the lead for Rangers.
Igamane got his name on the scoresheet before the break and scored his second goal of the tie in the 54th minute. Badredine Bouanani scored for Nice in the 83rd minute but it wasn’t enough to stop them suffering a defeat against Rangers.
French newspaper L’Equipe have named the 22-year-old forward, Diomandé and Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland ‘top’ players of the Europa League tie.
Igamane got the highest rating of 8/10, which, as per L’Equipe standards is quite good, while the other two Rangers players got 7/10.
The newspaper claims the Morocco U23 international made sure, with his brace, that Nice couldn’t make a comeback against Philippe Clement’s side.
They state: ‘A double which rewards a match where he also knew how to hamper Nice’s recovery.’
The French club had dominated possession and had seven shots on target, one less than Rangers. That wasn’t enough to secure three points.
The rest of Rangers’ starting XI, including Cerny, Dujon Sterling, Robin Pröpper, John Souttar, Jefté, Connor Barron, Nicolas Raskin and Nedim Bajrami were all rated 6/10.
