Aston Villa were held to a goalless draw by an injury-stricken Juventus in the Champions League yesterday.

The Old Lady had only six players on the bench at Villa Park, and Unai Emery’s side had a last ditch Morgan Rogers goal ruled out due to a Diego Carlos foul on Juventus goalkeeper Michele di Gregorio.

Despite the fact that Aston Villa couldn’t beat a reduced Juve side, the Bianconeri’s Timothy Weah had some praise for how the English club played. He also seemed satisfied by his side’s showing and how they managed to get a point from the game.

He told UEFA, as relayed by Tuttomercatoweb: “We are Juventus, so we wanted to come here and win, but it was a good point against a really tough team.

“I was really impressed by Aston Villa, their standard was very high. We just have to take the positives.”

While the American liked the performance on show from his side, Italian football pundit Paolo dDi Canio had criticism for Juventus and their approach.

He told Sky Italia, as relayed by Corriere dello Sport: “We were not thinking of a futuristic game but at least of being able to see something different from the past.”

Di Canio also went on to state that Max Allegri’s imprint is still very much around at Juventus.

This was also in the DNA with Allegri , this mentality of working without the ball.”

Regardless of Juventus’ performance and approach, it wasn’t a result Aston Villa will be especially pleased or displeased with.

That shows how far they’ve come.
