In the summer, Paul Onuachu returned to Southampton after spending last season on loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor.
Russell Martin initially left the striker out of the squad before giving him opportunities from October. He’s been mainly used as a substitute, clocking in 134 minutes from seven matches this season.
According to Voetbal Krant, Southampton want to offload some players to make room for new signings in January, to help them get out of the relegation zone.
The report says the Saints consider the 30-year-old ‘redundant’ and have told him to look for a new club. This has attracted interest from other several clubs, including Club Brugge, and the report focuses on the Belgian side.
Voetbal Krant make it clear this is their own information and state the Jupiler Pro League side have a ‘concrete’ desire to bring the former KRC Genk man back to Belgium in the winter market.
Southampton invested €18m to buy the Nigerian from Genk in January 2023 and want to recover as much as possible.
Club Brugge, who settled for a draw against Celtic in the Champions League yesterday, are willing to pay €10m for Onuachu. Whether that’s enough to convince Southampton isn’t clear, but the player is keen on returning to Belgium in January.
