Omar Marmoush joining Liverpool would make no sense as there’s not a position for him, and he’s not a direct replacement for Mohamed Salah.
That’s according to Lothar Matthaus, speaking to SportBILD, who thinks Inter Milan would be a better destination than Liverpool for the Egyptian star.
Marmoush has continued to earn admirers around Europe thanks to his performances for Eintracht Frankfurt this season, with 14 goals and ten assists in 17 games in all competitions to his name so far.
That means he’s only three goals short of the 17 he managed in 41 games last season and has already surpassed his tally of six assists to boot.
It’s shaping up to be another star confirming season for the 25-year-old and the transfer rumours are continuing to build because of it.
Liverpool are the club who have been linked the most, with many believing they have identified Marmoush as the replacement for Salah should he not sign a new contract and leave on a free transfer next summer.
Indeed, a report on Tuesday made it clear that they player wanted the move to Liverpool and saw it as a transfer dream. Matthaus doesn’t understand that, though, questioning where the forward would fit in at Anfield.
“In terms of position, no,” he answered when asked if he can replace Salah.
“Marmoush is not a right winger, but a second, hanging striker next to a centre forward. Marmoush’s position does not exist at Liverpool, so the move makes no sense to me. Inter Milan with the 5-3-2 system would be a better fit for him.”
