Pascal Gross was a long-term key player at Brighton before leaving the club in the summer of 2024, joining Borussia Dortmund.

The German was a versatile option for Brighton and played over 200 times accross all competitions for the club.

Dortmund’s interest really caught the player’s imagination and it was a move he pushed for but he hasn’t been quite as important as he’ll have hoped.

BILD Ruhr-West today look at the 33-year-old’s situation in Germany, noting that he’s been ‘demoted to benchwarmer’ status under Nuri Sahin.

He didn’t start the game against Freiburg at the weekend, raising concerns that he has fallen down the Dortmund pecking order. That is largely due to Felix Nmecha’s impressive showings in the heart of the park.

As a result, Gross is no longer the first choice at the club and he is the one who now ‘suffers’. The expectation is that the ex-Seagulls man will spend more time on the bench than he has in the season so far, having played 761 minutes in the Bundesliga in the campaign.

Nmecha is pushing Dortmund higher up the table and the suggestion is that the former Brighton hero is the victim of that success.
