Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán featured for Colombia in the World Cup qualifier defeats against Uruguay and Ecuador this month.
After La Tricolor’s 1-0 loss to Ecuador on Tuesday, the striker spoke to the media in the mixed zone.
On Wednesday, we covered claims from Colombia which stated the Aston Villa player got into a verbal fight with journalists. Durán was accused of displaying arrogance and just being rather unpleasant and childish with his replies.
Caracol Radio, a major source in Colombia, cover some of the comments made by the 21-year-old and then give their own take on this case.
“And why aren’t you a coach? From the outside you can see the spaces and talk a lot. We have to go in and play, to see how things are,” he said, when a journalist asked him about the national team’s performance against Ecuador.
“If he behaves this rude without winning anything, the aggrandisement is going to crash him. In England his teammates can’t stand him,” he said.
Journalist Adolfo Pérez partly echoed Mejía when giving his take on the Aston Villa man.
“There’s still time for someone to tell Durán to stop believing he’s Cristiano Ronaldo. If they keep telling him that his attitude inside and outside is fine because it’s rebellion, he’s not going to grow, he’s a long way from being what he’s supposed to be,” Pérez explained.
Caracol Radio’s Juan Felipe Cadavid has sent a message to those close to the Colombian.
“He needs good advice from those close to him, less pandering and applause for everything he does and more words that help him grow,” he added.
