Everton were credited with an interest in Juventus’ Arthur Melo in the summer window.
The midfielder returned to the Serie A side, after Fiorentina decided not to make his loan stay permanent at the end of last season. The Toffees and a few others had looked at the 28-year-old, but no deal took shape in the end.
Everton are still in the picture for Arthur if Friday’s edition of Sport is to be believed.
The Brazilian, who played 48 matches for Fiorentina in all competitions last season, hasn’t yet made an appearance for Juve this season.
Thiago Motta hasn’t considered his compatriot at the Turin club this season. The report says the former Barcelona man could fit in well into his current system at Juve, but he’s still not given any opportunities.
It’s claimed Everton, Marseille and Grêmio have ‘already shown interest’ in the South American’s situation. These clubs are ready to offer him an ‘escape route’ in January.
Arthur’s deal lasts until 2026, but the newspaper says he’ll have an ‘opportunity to leave’ the Old Lady in the winter market. It remains to be seen whether he can be successful.
