River Plate have been urged to consider a move for Tottenham striker Alejo Veliz, as he represents a ‘unique market opportunity’.

That’s according to Renzo Pantich, via Soy del Millo, who believe the Tottenham man could be on the Argentine club’s radar.

They report that it has become clear at River Plate that they need to find a striker for their squad, with Miguel Borja’s time at the club considered over.

Marcelo Gallardo and his team are looking for a replacement who can provide a leap in quality to the forward options. Veliz is one of those being looked at and considered a ‘unique market opportunity’ that should be taken advantage of.

“We have to look for Alejo Veliz, he has no minutes in Europe, at a very good age. And I know that he would like to play for River at some point,” said Pantich on Cuidemos el Fútbol.

The website then adds that Veliz, who is currently struggling with Espanyol on loan in Spain, ‘urgently needs a change of team’ to give his career a kickstart.

On the subject of his transfer, they say he’s valued at €9m and there is a belief that a return to Argentina could be negotiated. Such a figure would be high for River but could prove to be a bargain if it solved their goalscoring issues.

For now, it’s all speculation and it would depend on Tottenham deciding to give up on Veliz, cancel his loan in Spain and then decide a sale for less than the €15m they paid for the 21-year-old a year ago is the best course of action.
