With the greatest of respect to Newcastle United, becoming an important player at Barcelona, fighting for titles and seeing an international career opening up for you is not exactly the kind of grounding from which it’s realistic to be tempted by a move to the Magpies.

Newcastle United will be well aware of that, and that’s partly why claims they’re very interested in Marc Casadó can likely be dismissed. Eddie Howe’s side were thrown into the mix with Liverpool and Manchester United for the 21-year-old and it feels like the usual grasping of names from thin air from the usual suspects.

Nevertheless, Mundo Deportivo have picked up on the claims and they make it very clear how difficult a transfer would be.

Hansi Flick is presented as being a big fan of the youngster, and Marc Casadó has ‘knocked down the door’ to Barcelona’s first team.

The young midfielder is very happy with his situation and last year signed a contract extension lasting until 2028. That contract includes a €100m release clause.

Mundo Deportivo explain that even if Newcastle United or any other club could agree a fee with Barcelona, they’d also have to convince the player… which would be an even bigger task.

One to file away in the appropriate place for now.
