Goalkeeper Justin Bijlow will be handed his chance to get over his transfer drama with Southampton this summer as he’s set for a return to the Feyenoord first team.
Voetbal Primeur cover the situation today and comments from Feyenoord boss Brian Priske, who has confirmed Bijlow will be returning as number one.
Bijlow was set to leave Feyenoord in the summer and was on the verge of joining Southampton, who even flew him over for a medical.
However, the 26-year-old ended up in a disagreement with the Premier League newcomers over the treatment of previous wrist injuries and the Saints ultimately cancelled the deal at the last minute before then signing Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal instead.
That left Bijlow somewhat stuck at Feyenoord, where he has been playing the role of backup to Timon Wellenreuther.
Pressure has been growing on Wellenreuther over the last few weeks, with a series of negative performances leading to calls for change and for Bijlow to return.
That is now set to happen, with Priske confirming he will be returned to the team and has been pushing for months after the drama with Southampton in the summer.
“Justin will be in goal tomorrow,” he said
“Why? The same reason as for other players. It is an evaluation of Timon and Justin’s performance.
“He has been pushing for months. In the summer we had two very strong goalkeepers and then I chose Timon. We still have two very good goalkeepers, but I now choose Justin.”
