Turkey coach Vincenzo Montella has insisted reports linking him to Manchester United over the last few weeks were just “chatter and speculation”.
Tuttomercatoweb cover comments from Montella today in which he revealed his growing love for Türkiye and dismissed the links to Manchester United.
The 50-year-old had found himself linked with the Manchester United job in the last few weeks as the pressure increased on Erik ten Hag.
He’s currently impressing with Türkiye, who he took charge of in September last year and has since led to nine wins, three draws and five defeats in 17 games so far.
Reports in Turkey had linked him to Manchester United as a result, with it claimed they had been in touch with the Italian’s entourage about a potential move if they sacked Ten Hag.
The Dutchman was relieved of his duties this week, but Sporting Club de Portugal manager Ruben Amorim is now the man in line to replace him and Montella insists any links to him were nothing more than speculation.
“I can say that I am becoming one of you (Turkish). I have reached a point where I love this country so much,” he said.
“I don’t give much importance to chatter and speculation. I don’t like talking about myself, I’m not someone with a big ego. If this were true, the first person to realize it would be the president of the Federation and then the manager. I’m only focused on the national team.”
