Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen hasn’t made an appearance and has been in the squad for just two matches this season.
Emiliano Martínez is the first-choice stopper for Unai Emery, with Joe Gauci as his back-up. This means Olsen has dropped further down the pecking order.
Two days ago, Expressen reported Malmö FF are seriously considering making an attempt to sign Olsen in the winter market. It was also said they have held initial talks with Aston Villa, who are open to letting him leave.
Despite his current situation with the Premier League side, the 34-year-old’s ‘plan at the moment’ is to continue at the club until the end of this season.
Olsen previously had two spells with the Swedish club and the last one was between 2012 and 2015. It’s claimed his return to Malmö ‘could become a reality’ next summer once his deal with Aston Villa expires.
Malmö’s intention is to continue with Johan Dahlin as their main goalkeeper until the first half of 2025 and then let him compete with Olsen for a place in the starting lineup.
