Manchester United are a project that suits Rúben Amorim, hence his willingness to jump ship from Sporting Club de Portugal as soon as possible.

That’s according to journalist João Castro, via Bola Na Rede, who believes the Portuguese club will have learned a painful lesson from Amorim’s impending departure to Manchester United.

The Red Devils have moved for the Portuguese coach today after taking the decision to sack Erik ten Hag yesterday.

Officials have been in Lisbon today looking to seal a deal and that has been progressing throughout the day, with Manchester United making it clear they are willing to pay Amorim’s €10m release clause to get him.

There is a growing belief that the 39-year-old will be in charge for the clash with Chelsea this weekend, bringing an end to a superb four year stay at the Portuguese club.

The reaction from them has been as expected, with fans already pictured in tears at Amorim’s impending departure.

The separation with a coach who has won two league titles, two Taça da Liga’s and the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira will be on that hurts and Castro admits the club will need to learn a painful lesson when it comes to release clauses.

“I think it’s normal for Rúben Amorim to leave and want to take the step. The timing is bad and defines some unusual characteristics in this movement by Rúben Amorim,” he said.

“If he wanted to go to West Ham, of course I would gladly go to Manchester United. Rúben Amorim would also have seen Hugo Viana leave for Manchester City and would have realized that his cycle would be ending.

“For Rúben Amorim, Manchester United is a project that suits him. It is reinventing itself and needs to take an axe to cut what has happened in recent years. You have some time, you are going into the middle of the season, there will always be space and time.

“For Sporting there is a learning experience. There should be a bigger clause not to leave in the middle of the season. It should include a bigger clause, but Sporting is left here with a lesson for the future.”
